Install FoxHunt on Android

FoxHunt for Android is in closed testing on Google Play. Anyone can join: sign up as a tester, then install the app from the Play Store like any other app. Updates arrive automatically.

Before you start

  • An Android phone running Android 8.0 or later.
  • The Google account that is signed in to the Play Store on that phone. Use that same account in every step.
  • Your FoxHunt account (the same one as on the web or iPhone), or create one in the app.

    Open this page in Chrome

    If you opened this link from Messenger, Facebook or another app, tap ⋯ (top right) and choose “Open in Chrome”. Google sign-in often fails inside those built-in browsers.

    Join the testers group

    Open the foxhunt-testers group and tap “Join group” at the top. A message saying you don't have permission to see the content is normal: it only hides the group's messages.

    Accept the invitation

    Open the test invitation and tap “Become a tester”. You should then see “You are now a tester”.

    Install from Google Play

    Open the FoxHunt listing on Google Play and tap “Install”. If it says the app isn't available, wait a few minutes: it can take up to an hour after joining.

    Open FoxHunt and sign in

    Sign in with your FoxHunt account, then allow location and notifications when asked. Your location is shared only during an active round.

Troubleshooting

“Item not found” or the app isn't available on Google Play

Make sure you finished steps 2 and 3, then wait a few minutes. Check that the Play Store is using the same Google account: tap your profile picture in the Play Store to switch accounts.

I have several Google accounts

Join the group and accept the invitation with the account that is signed in to the Play Store on your phone.

“Content unavailable” on the group page

Open the page in Chrome (step 1) and make sure you're signed in to a Google account. Then tap “Join group”.

How do I leave the beta?

Open the invitation link again and choose “Leave the program”, then uninstall the app. You can also leave the Google group.
